Thought papers and research give the emerging discipline of FCD a place to be articulated, questioned, tested and strengthened through evidence and institutional practice.
Explore Current Work Explore FCDThe current Thought Paper introduces FCD as a structured educational discipline focused on the intentional development of the human capabilities required to recognise opportunities, navigate uncertainty, create value and lead meaningful action.
The paper examines the missing capability layer within higher education and extends the relevance of founder capability beyond venture creation. It positions FCD as a common capability foundation across entrepreneurship, careers and leadership.
It also introduces the emerging collaborative agenda around research and evidence, curriculum and pedagogy, faculty development, institutional implementation, measurement and shared learning.
FCD is not being presented as a finished model. Its long-term value depends on how well its ideas are studied, applied, measured and refined across different institutional and learner contexts.
Build a stronger evidence base around capability progression, learner outcomes and the longer-term relevance of FCD across entrepreneurship, careers and leadership.
Study how experiential learning, reflection, application and feedback can develop capabilities intentionally rather than leaving them to emerge incidentally.
Explore how educators move from knowledge delivery towards mentoring, observation, reflection and capability development within structured learning environments.
Learn from different models of adoption across universities, business schools, incubation centres and other higher-education environments.
Develop meaningful ways to observe capability development over time while recognising that human capability cannot always be reduced to conventional academic measures.
Create mechanisms through which institutions, educators and practitioners can exchange evidence, experiences and insights as the discipline evolves.
The Parallel Ventures approach has evolved through design, delivery, observation and reflection. The research agenda follows the same logic: use institutional practice to generate questions, evidence and insight that can strengthen the underlying discipline.
CCL, the Incubation Suite, StartupBox, assessments, the Capstone and faculty preparation all create opportunities to study how capability develops in practice and how that development can be made more intentional, observable and transferable.
Universities, educators, researchers, incubation centres and ecosystem partners can contribute not only by adopting FCD, but by helping test, study and strengthen what the discipline can become.
Apply FCD in real programmes and contexts, then learn from participant progression, faculty experience and implementation outcomes.
Co-develop studies, evidence reviews and longitudinal inquiry around capability development and its relationship to student and founder outcomes.
Create spaces for institutions and practitioners to compare approaches, evidence and lessons as the field develops.
Today, the FCD Thought Paper is the principal published research document in this section. As the body of work develops, this page will become the home for additional thought papers, evidence reviews, benchmark work, institutional learning notes and collaborative studies.
The aim is not volume for its own sake. Each piece should help clarify the discipline, strengthen practice or create better questions for the next stage of development.
We welcome conversations with institutions, educators and researchers interested in testing, studying and strengthening the discipline through practice.
